Description
Cefadroxil is a first-generation cephalosporin distinguished by its longer duration of action, which allows convenient twice-daily dosing. It is widely used for skin and soft tissue infections and streptococcal pharyngitis.
BioGalen manufactures Cefadroxil as a paediatric dry syrup (125 mg/5 ml and 250 mg/5 ml on reconstitution). The twice-daily dosing supports treatment adherence in paediatric courses across the markets we serve.
Mechanism of Action
Cefadroxil is a first-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins. It shares the Gram-positive strength of the first-generation class but has a longer plasma half-life than cephalexin, which supports twice-daily rather than more frequent dosing. This longer duration of action improves treatment adherence, a meaningful advantage in outpatient care.
Indications
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Streptococcal pharyngitis and tonsillitis
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Other Gram-positive infections (as directed)
Available Variants
